| To add some variation to the picking exercises, lets look at shifting positions. Start slow, with a relaxed wrist. I'll illustrate this with groups of fours, but you can apply this to any counts you like. If you count "One-two-three-four", pick four notes in ascending order using one finger per fret on the left hand. That will cause you to use all of your left hand fingers.Pretty simple. Now, try this:pick your first note (the "one") and fret with your left hand forefinger.but instead of dropping your second finger for "two), slide your first finger up a fret, then continue the sequence. So now, it will go like this first finger, first finger, second, third, then the fourth finger will fall on the "one" of the next sequence, and you begin to descend back down,Fourth finger, third, second, first. To begin again, just slide your first finger back down to the original fret you started on the "one" of the next sequence.Repeat for one minute and then shift to a new sequence of fingers, sliding on the second finger, then the third, and then the fourth.
