| Seems someone else spotted one of the problems with the tenure system. It really all boils down to a lack of accountability - something that's been discussed here before.
Having experienced a bad instructor before, I do know that it is possible for the student body to effect change. Unfortunately, despite the instructor being a new hire, it was exceedingly difficult, and took a few semesters. How much harder would it have been if they were tenured?
On the other hand, I know of some really good instructors out there that would have been run off by the students because they (the instructors) had the audacity to actually expect the students to perform to a standard. How dare they. (Too bad you can't hear the sarcastic tone when I say that....)
