I'd heard about this program called The Levelator ™. From their site:
quote:
So what is The Levelator? It's software that runs on Windows or OS X (universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example. It's not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. It's much more than those tools, and it's much simpler to use. The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Leveler's application window, and a few moments later you'll find a new version which just sounds better.

I tested it on Axeman's sermon from last Sunday (to be posted sometime tonight), and what normally takes hours, was done in about 30 min.! I'm tempted to go and re-do the other two.

Its free for non-commercial use, and an excellent tool if the speaker's voice tends to go from loud to really loud to not as loud and you need to kinda level it all off.

Let the good times roll.

Note to self, recording topics don't seem to be all that popular...

C'mon guys, I at least expected some bad jokes about the name, and maybe some cracks about if it was endorsed by a certain CA Governor, or if it was programmed by some AI from the future, or if it was made by some burly Austrian programmer...
